In short

  • You save a doctor appointment with Quick add > Add a visit: name, date and time, doctor, hospital and note.
  • With the repeat option, you enter monthly appointments once and still see them on the Calendar in later months.
  • Reminders can come one day before, one hour before, 15 minutes before or at appointment time.
  • No reminder completes a visit automatically; after the appointment, you mark it as completed.
  • With Notification Privacy, you can hide appointment details on the lock screen.

Getting an appointment date is easy; the hard part is remembering that day and time weeks later. In this guide we walk you step by step through adding a doctor appointment in Oveluni, choosing the reminder that suits you and completing the record after the appointment. It takes a few minutes to set up, and then Oveluni reminds you on time.

Before you start: the Doctor check-ups area

Oveluni has five tracking areas: Medications, Cycle, Daily check-in, Doctor check-ups and Women's health. Each area turns on and off on its own; for this guide, all you need is for the Doctor check-ups area to be on. Even if you turn an area off later, your past records are kept.

It also helps to know this: Oveluni is a record-keeping and reminder tool. It doesn't book appointments, talk to the clinic or interpret your results. You enter the dates and notes; Oveluni keeps them organized and reminds you when the time comes.

The Doctor check-ups area works with every profile type: Female, Male or Prefer not to say. Your appointments sit on the same calendar as your medication plans, period records and notes, so you can see on one screen what else is happening in an appointment's week.

Step by step: add your first appointment

  1. Open the Quick add menu. You'll see six record types: Add a visit, Medication intake log, New medication plan, Period days, Daily check-in and A note.
  2. Choose Add a visit. The doctor appointment form opens from this option.
  3. Give the appointment a name. Pick a name you'll recognize right away on the Calendar, like "Eye check-up" or "Annual blood test results".
  4. Enter the date and time. Enter the time exactly as it appears on your appointment card or message.
  5. Add the doctor and hospital. Writing the doctor's name and the hospital or clinic name prevents mix-ups when you have more than one appointment on the same day.
  6. Use the note field. You can write down the documents to bring, whether you need to come fasting, or the questions you want to ask.
  7. Save and check the Calendar. If the appointment shows up on the day you chose, the record is done.

You can also start from the Calendar: when you tap a day and add from there, the record opens straight on that day. If you're thinking about what to bring to the appointment, 7 notes to take to your doctor's appointment is a good place to start. If your appointment is a video call, our telehealth appointment checklist can help too.

Choose your reminder: when do you want to be alerted?

The Add a visit form has four reminder options:

  • One day before: gives you time to prepare documents, arrange time off or plan how you'll get there.
  • One hour before: reminds you when it's time to leave.
  • 15 minutes before: useful if you're already near the hospital or getting ready for an online consultation.
  • At appointment time: a reminder that arrives the moment your appointment starts.

It also helps to decide in advance what you'll do when the reminder arrives. You can use the day-before reminder as prep time: put the documents from your note in your bag, go over what you want to ask, update the list of medications you take. Health resources like MedlinePlus also suggest writing your medications, allergies and questions on a list before the appointment; if that list is ready in the appointment's note field, you won't be hunting for it on the morning of the appointment.

Which one suits you depends on your daily routine. If you're going to a hospital far away, the day-before reminder is usually the most comfortable; if you work in the same building, 15 minutes before may be enough. You can also turn appointment reminders on or off in the reminder preferences in Settings.

Repeating appointments and changed dates

Some appointments repeat regularly. In the form's repeat option, you can choose Once or Monthly. When you choose Monthly, you enter the appointment once; it also shows on the Calendar in the following months, and you don't need to open a separate record for each one.

For example, if you have a follow-up visit on the same day every month, a monthly repeat makes things easier. For appointments that happen once or twice a year, it's tidier to choose Once and, after each appointment, add the next one with Create follow-up.

If an appointment is postponed, you enter the new date from the appointment's details with Edit appointment. If your doctor gave you a new date for the next visit, you can add it with Create follow-up. If a repeating appointment is no longer needed, the Stop future appointments option removes the upcoming ones; your past records stay where they are.

If you're pregnant, appointment dates come around more often; we covered keeping them together in one calendar in keeping pregnancy check-up dates in one calendar.

After the appointment: mark it as completed

Oveluni has one rule: no reminder completes a visit automatically. Seeing the notification doesn't mean you went to the appointment, so afterwards you open the appointment's details and tap "Mark as completed". That way you can clearly see on the Calendar which appointments took place and which are still coming up.

If you couldn't make it to the appointment, you don't have to delete the record. When you get a new date, you update it with Edit appointment; if the new date isn't set yet, you can write a short note reminding you to call the clinic. A missed appointment isn't anyone's fault; busy weeks happen to everyone. What matters is saving the new date as soon as you get it.

You can add what your doctor said and the next step to the note of a completed appointment. Health resources also suggest following up on results and the plan after the appointment, and getting contact details for any questions on your mind. If something about your medications or treatment worries you, ask your doctor or pharmacist without waiting for the next appointment.

Notification privacy and the PDF report

Appointment reminders can appear on the lock screen and on Apple Watch. If you don't want people around you to see the appointment's name or the hospital, turn on "Hide check-up and pregnancy details" in Notification Privacy; the reminder still arrives, but the details don't show. You can use the preview in Settings to see how the notification will look on iPhone and Apple Watch. If you don't want any notifications for a while, just turn off appointment reminders; your appointments stay on the Calendar.

On your way to an appointment, you can turn your records into a PDF report: you choose 7, 30 or 90 days or a custom range, pick the categories to include, and preview it. "Include notes" is off by default. Your records are stored on this iPhone; there is no automatic cloud backup or analytics tracking. For all the features, take a look at the Features page. Oveluni is coming soon to the App Store.
